Questi i risultati dei Gruppi per l’accesso ai quarti di finale di Davis Cup in programma nel prossimo mese di novembre.
Le finali di Coppa Davis hanno preso il via martedì con la fase a gironi giocate in quattro città europee e molte sorprese. Il numero 13 del mondo Felix Auger-Aliassime e il numero 17 del mondo Diego Schwartzman, gli unici due giocatori top 20 in azione in questa prima giornata, sono stati sconfitti senza mezzi termini.
Nel duello tra Canada e Corea del Sud, a Valencia, Auger-Aliassime non è riuscito a resistere al rivale numero uno Soowoo Kwon (74° ATP), 7-6(5), 6-3 e tutto si è deciso nel match di doppio vinto dal Canada. Il gruppo B comprende anche Spagna e Serbia, che giocheranno la loro partita mercoledì.
Diego Schwartzman ha avuto una giornata negativa e la squadra argentina è stata sconfitta dalla Svezia dei fratelli Ymer nei due incontri di singolare. Prima Elias Ymer (119°) ha battuto Sebastian Baez (37°) per 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4), poi Mikael Ymer (98°) ha sconfitto Diego Schwartzman per 6-2, 6-2. Anche l’Italia e la Croazia fanno parte del Gruppo A (Bologna).
L’Australia ha aperto la sua campagna del Gruppo C con una vittoria per 3-0 sul Belgio ad Amburgo, mentre l’Olanda ha superato il Kazakistan nel Gruppo D a Glasgow.

Direi che sono entrambi abbastanza piccoletti: al di là dei dati farlocchi ATP, né Schwartzman né Baez si avvicinano lontanamente al metro e 70. Ma non è quello il punto.
