Filippo Volandri rompe il ghiaccio ed approda al turno decisivo dopo aver battuto Malek Jaziri con il risultato di 64 4-1 ritiro del tunisino per un problema fisico. che aveva chiamato già il fisioterapista sul 2 a 1 nel secondo set ed era al servizio Filippo.
Domani sfiderà al turno decisivo Radek Stepanek, 37 anni, n.148 ATP.
Bella vittoria di Matteo Donati che entrato all’ultimo secondo come alternates al posto di Benjamin Becker ha ribattuto nuovamente Santiago Giraldo (come lo scorso anno ma era il primo turno del tabellone principale), approdando al turno decisivo delle qualificazioni dove sfiderà Stephane Robert, classe 1980, n.103 ATP.
Da segnalare che nel match di oggi Matteo nel terzo parziale sul 5 a 6 e servizio a disposizione ha annullato una palla match sul 30-40, prima di tenere la battuta e vincere poi la partita al tiebreak per 7 punti a 3, piazzando i minibreak decisivi nel terzo ed al nono punto.
Scocca puntuale dopo un’ora di gioco l’alt per Andrea Arnaboldi.
Il francese Pouille non fa sconti e si aggiudica il match con lo score di 6-2, 6-3. Il 29enne meneghino non riesce a ripetere l’impresa dello scorso anno, quando compì il grande salto dalle qualificazioni prima di arrendersi al primo turno al belga Goffin.
Kukushkin ha la meglio su Federico Gaio, battuto 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Si ferma la corsa anche di Alessandro Giannessi, eliminato da Kudla in due set, 7-6, 6-4.
Perde i pezzi la folta pattuglia azzurra impegnata nelle qualificazioni. Matteo Viola porta a casa il primo set contro l’americano Ram, ma poi è costretto a cedere con un doppio 6-3.
Fuori anche Thomas Fabbiano superato da Inigo Cervantes, testa di serie n.7, con il risultato di 64 63 in 1 ora e 16 minuti di partita.
Esce di scena Omar Giacalone superato da Aljaz Bedene con il risultato di 46 63 61.
Da segnalare che nel corso del secondo set con Giacalone avanti per 3 a 1, il britannico ha chiamato il fisioterapista per un problema fisico, poi ovviamente superato, con Bedene che piazzava un parziale di 11 game a 1 vincendo la partita per 63 61.
Sconfitte anche di Luca Vanni, Lorenzo Giustino e Andrea Vavassori.

Essendo stato live al Foro e avendo avuto modo di vedere le partite degli italiani (non tutte per intero chiaramente), questi i miei principail commenti:
– Donat: grande matc e grande cuore, grande battaglia e bravissimo a portarla a casa
– Volandri: vista poco, ma solido e comunque la vittoria con Jaziri ci sta
– Giacalone: sinceramente la vedo come un’occasione persa. Giacalone non mi è sembrato un fenomeno, ma Bedene è stato davvero imbarazzante. A parte un servizio solido, per il resto davvero un pusher che non fa mai male con i suoi colpi. Classifica che, almeno sulla terra, non rispecchia assolutamente i valori
– Viola: altra sconfitta molto deludente. Ram sulla terra è davvero poca roba, è stata una partita di basso livello, con pochi scambi e sinceramete si poteva fare di più
– Fabbiano: match discreto, ma avversario superiore
– Arnaboldi: idem, troppo forte Pouille
– Vavassori:non mi ha fatto cattiva imrpessione, ha un bel fisico, Dzumhur più solido
– Giustino: così così, perso davvero troppo rapido (a parte il sussulto finale che non ho visto), però Haase con velocità di palla troppo superiore
– Gaio: a parte il fatto che urla troppo (più di Azarenka e Sharapova), ha fatto una buona partita, anche se con molti rimpianti. Kukushkin non certo in condizioni ottimali–

Si d’accordissimo . Il livello degli italiani di 2nd fascia è questo. Per quanto riguarda pouille è un giocatore che batterebbe tranquillamente bolelli e darebbe fastidio a fabio e Andreas , quindi è utopistico credere che si potesse battere. Sicuramente mager avrebbe avuto possibilità con ram o un bedene
A me ha sorpreso Gaio perchè il Kazako non è un bye affatto pur da non terraiolo e anche Fognini ha dovuto sudare nel secondo set di Monaco di Baviera.

Un attimo però se parliamo di ex top 200 a loro basta fare i maestri o gli allenatori di un certo livello per non morire di fame. Direi che basta qualche lezione privata per maturare un discreto stipendio giornaliero. Le WC con valore previdenziale per gli anziani tennisti di mestiere non mi hanno mai convinto. Anche perchè poi difficilmente vincono in main draw di torneoni incassando grossi assegni.
